Predators very often have mental illnesses that keep them from functioning properly in normal society. Children with mental disorders are often the prey of these predators, and sometimes children with mental disorders are the predators themselves. In fact, the distributor of one of the most serious viruses online came from an eighteen-year old English boy.

Dangers mental illnesses: Not everyone with a mental illness is a danger to society. Generally, predators with mental disorders are plagued with sociopathic, psychopathic and anti-social disorders, oppositional defiance, conduct control disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorders (BPD), and psychosis. While there are a few other mental disorders that pose threats to our society, this is a list of the most common potential dangers that lurk on the streets and on the Internet.

How to save a child with mental disorders from dangers : Never treat your child as if he/she has a mental disorder. Treat your child as special, yet avoid treating the child as if he/she is mentally ill, since many mentally ill patients are extremely intelligent. Teach your child the same rules that other children must live by and stick to those rules. Do not leave room for doubt when danger is present. Teach your child respect by showing respect yourself.

Children with dangerous mental disorders will often want to watch pornography, violent images, content, and so forth. This makes it harder as a parent to protect your child. However, it is important that you enforce the laws. Never put yourself in danger while enforcing these laws, since some children with dangerous problems may cause you harm.

If the child won’t listen to you, bring in the police and make sure that they do their job to help you enforce the rules. You may have to pay court fees and go through all sorts of rigmarole, but I can promise you that it will benefit you in the end. As a mother who is raising two boys with dangerous mental problems, I can tell you it isn’t easy but it can be done.

Children with mental disorders often have brilliant minds that can usually get past any parental controls and will do so without you even knowing. Take extra time than normal to monitor your child’s activity online. Teach your child that giving out personal details is dangerous and encourage them to ask your permission when considering giving name, phone number, or other information online.

Allow your child to take some responsibility for himself and always encourage your child to join in family discussions that involve them. Furthermore, encourage the child to be safety conscious by telling them to report any wrong committed against them.

One of the most difficult things you’ll ever have to do while raising a child with mental health problems is encouraging him/her to avoid violent images and pornography. It is almost impossible to keep them clear of this trash. However, it can be done, if you set a good example for the child to follow.

It is important that you keep talking and listening to your child. Allow your child to express concerns, opinions, ideals, theories et cetera without demeaning the child. You will be amazed at the knowledge children with certain mental illnesses have, if you will only listen to them.

Child Safety Online

June 14th, 2010 Marion Jones No comments

What is there to say about the world children inhabit these days? Sexed-up television, pornographic Internet sites and videos and violent board games. A world that is lowering its standards, values, and morals every day, surrounds our children.

What is even worse is that we cannot use Parental Controls any more to keep our children away from websites of an adult nature. Children nowadays are advanced in technology, and sometimes more so than their parents. How can we protect our children against online dangers? How can we as parents provide safety for our children, while battling the corruption going on worldwide?

Parental Controls are available on most types of Internet software, yet today, children are skilled at by-passing these Parental Controls. So, what can we do? We can guard our kids by monitoring their time spent on the Internet closely.

How to use parental controls: It depends on which Internet provider you use, however, I will speak only of the Internet providers I am aware of, since not all programs are the same. To use AOL Parental Controls, you will have to go to ‘Safety’ on the toolbar and click on ‘Parental Controls’.

Once you arrive there, you will see a drop-down list of available usernames. Search for your child’s username and click on the username. You will see a popup window appear. Click on ‘Edit Web Control’ and then click ‘Kids Only’, and close. Now your child is protected against Internet sites that hold potential dangers.

Chat rooms pose serious dangers to children, since anyone can go into these rooms. Often predators frequent these areas, so as to entice children into a web of danger. In the AOL program, click on ‘Safety’ and then click on ‘Parental Controls’.

Next, following the same steps click on the ‘Edit IM Controls’, ‘Edit E-mail Controls’, and ‘Edit Chat Control’ and follow the same steps as you did to setup the ‘Parental Controls’.

It is wise to setup passwords. Passwords will offer additional protection and safety to your child. Do not give the child the passwords, since this will give the child control of your Internet connections, and the child might reset the controls.

It is also a good idea to activate your ‘Popup Controllers’ too, since if you do not turn on the controls, pop ups could carry a virus that could corrupt your computer or popup adult content, which your child will see if online. You can go into ‘AOL Safety’ at the toolbar to start these popup blockers.

If you use Internet Explorer; open a page. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top menu, then click ‘Popup Blocker’ and then click ‘Popup Blocker Settings’. Read the information carefully and set the program at medium. Medium is standard and will block most pop ups. If you put the settings higher than medium you could find it difficult to open websites for browsing.

Some of the dangers presented to children online include: Internet Porn; Child Porn; Child Sexual Abuse; Mobile Porn; and more. As you can see, your child is in danger, and if you want to master safety, you will have to monitor, and take steps to safeguard your child against online dangers.

According to recent studies, students have encountered sexual malpractices through webcams, instant messengers, and mobile phones. Additional studies show that pornographic websites out-rate CBS, ABC, and NBC, thus making more profit than each of these television channels in a year. The studies claim that the largest group that views porn sites are children. These children are between the ages of twelve and seventeen.

The statistics showed that about 74% of all the porn sites had unmonitored banners, while another 66% of the websites did not announce ‘adult content’ warnings. Moreover, another 11% of the sites did not have ’sexually explicit content’ warnings and 25% trapped their visitors by not allowing them to leave their websites. Only 3% of the websites out of more than 14 millions adult websites requested adult permission for minors to visit. So, protect your child now!

Decorating Ideas for the Interior

April 14th, 2010 Marion Jones No comments

The bleak winter is getting to you and you’re pfaffing around trying to decide what to do with yourself. You’re snowbound and the only thing that you can think of doing is sitting in front of your fire, drinking hot chocolate and staring broodingly out of the window. The only thing with that is that you’ve already been doing just that for days now and you’ve have had enough of fires, hot chocolate and mooching.

Now you’re itching to do something different, so, you turn to the only comfort you have and switch on the TV. You’re instantly captivated by one of those numerous shows about how you can jazz up your home. You find yourself flooded with decorating ideas: ideas on both interior decor and exterior decor.

So, you finally find yourself entranced by a program that you would have dismissed earlier and jump out of your chair to get a pen and notebook to note down all those fantastic ideas. Before long, you’ve run out of room in your notebook and have to leave your comfortable chair to go get another one.

And before you get back to your armchair, you’ve made a quick tour around the house and have spotted many of the things that you’ve spent a lifetime trying to avoid – the cracks in the bedroom walls, the growing patch of mildew in the bathroom, the paint chipping off many of the skirtings.

The list is very long and could easily fill several notepads. Therefore, you sit down, and alongside your notes on various decorating ideas on interior design and general redecorating, you studiously note down all the little things that need repairing, replacing or refitting.

The list naturally spans more than even your second notebook can hold but you decide to stop there, because it’s more than your arm can take to continue writing, besides you already have all the pertinent facts at your fingertips, so now you set about sorting them out into directions that you can easily follow.

No easy task that, when your decorating ideas, interior designs and room-by-room list of flaws is all jumbled up into one horrible pile. You then turn to the tried and true, age-old method of sitting on the floor and surrounding yourself with your notes in an attempt at finding some order.

When you eventually reach that sublime state of order, you lay back with a tired but satisfied smile on your face. The knowledge that you’ll now have enough decorating ideas and interior design plans and less spare time on your hands during those long hard months of winter, sends a gush of contentment running right through you. Home Schooling Learning History

April 13th, 2010 Marion Jones No comments

Do you consider that spending time in traditional classrooms is a waste of time? For some people, that is probably true. For instance, an exam is coming up and the students are asked to memorize a list of dates and names. However, after taking the exam, they will definitely forget 90% of those dates and names. That’s what most students do when they have exams. If you are one of these people, you will find traditional history lessons boring, so home schooling, which focuses more on the history of the world, will probably interest you more.

Just simple memorization is not enough to know the significance of historical, famous people and important events. Through home schooling in history, you can learn about the different cultures of the past in a different, but interesting way – that is your own way! By the study of history, you will also realize the current situation of the world.

If you think that home schooling is the most effective option for your child’s education, you must also be prepared to take on some responsibilities. Since there will be no teacher physically present, you will have to oversee your child’s learning progress yourself.

Let’s say that your child is interested in sports. Through history and home schooling, you could start by just hanging a map on the wall of your child’s room. Mark the location of his favorite sports team and make sure that you track all the team’s activities and schedules. Then, you could go back to history by reading biographies of the various athletes, who had been popular in the particular sport that your child likes. Apart from that, you can also look into the history of that specific sport and discover where it originated, its inventor, and the other things happening in that particular time.

For instance, if your child likes baseball, you could teach your child about the history baseball, government hearings on the use of steroids and other favourite pastimes at that period in time. Just remember that you can adapt this method to any interest like dancing, cars or any invention. You can also have conversations with your child about current affairs or read interesting historical documents and other books. Aside from that, you can also watch documentaries together with the rest of the family. There are various resources that your child can use while home schooling, like TV, maps, newspapers, books, a globe, an atlas, and encyclopedias. Due of the exciting adventures that you and your child will read about and see on film, he/she will find it easier to remember the names and dates of the history lessons. After all, learning is better when it is done in an interesting way.

These ways are recommended if your child is still young, but when your child gets older, you must select a home schooling program that is suitable for his/her particular age group. The programs are pitched at the elementary, high school, and even college levels. You simply have to search online for these different programs. One good thing about these programs is that you can tailor them to fit the requirements of your child. However, you have to ensure that all the lessons are followed by your child.

Once you and your child have decided to try home schooling, you must be prepared for some changes to take place in your life. The learning environment will now be your home not a school and through the various resources that you can use including the computer and Internet.

Home Schooling and Young Kids

April 11th, 2010 Marion Jones No comments

In recent years, home schooling has become extremely popular especially with middle and upper-middle class families. There have been lots of arguments before about home schooling. Experts claim that there are advantages as well as disadvantages in home schooling but it seems that the former outweigh the latter and therefore, a lot of families are now selecting home schooling over the traditional schools.

Cultures vary enormously and relationships within the family are affected by culture too. In some cultures, family bonds are quite strong, but there are also those who don’t have very good relationships with other family members at all. However, through home schooling, family relationships are improved. Parents will spend more time with their kids because of the home schooling program and the children will have to listen to their parents as well. Communication is much enhanced and both parties have to learn about the importance of both speaking and listening.

Many families prefer home schooling because of its diversity. However, since the cost of home education is a bit more than traditional schools, the financial situation of the family is quite important. However, even without considering money, many parents would still go for home schooling, because it can ensure their children’s safety. Public schools often have dangerous environments that can affect kids enormously, however if they are in a home schooling program, they can avoid these predicaments and their parents will be there to supervise them.

Instead of placing the kids at a public school, many parents prefer home schooling because the educational environment in the public schools is not that conducive. In public schools, very young pupils may experience difficulties that can affect them socially, mentally, and academically for a long time. Experts that have conducted surveys, claim that children learn better in a safe environment surrounded by loved ones. A further advantage of home schooling is that children can learn according to their ability. You can’t just give a new lesson, if the previous one hasn’t been learned yet. It may take longer, but the results are better.

As said previously, home schooling is a tad more expensive. However, if you think that you can reduce your child’s educational expenses, you’re almost certainly wrong. Home schooling costs are just about the equal to those of traditional schools. However, if you join in the forums of the parents of home-schoolers, you will find that there are ways to reduce costs. Naturally, you will need to spend on the resource materials, computer, and internet, but you can also visit outside resources like cultural do’s, public libraries, etc..

You will be given even more cost-cutting ideas, if you get in touch with other parents. The Internet offers endless possibilities and with a bit of research, you can definitely come up with ways to reduce the costs. If you don’t want to hire teachers, then you will have to learn the lessons as well, however, you have already studied the various subjects in your kids’ educational program, so you only need to review them. You can get further learning material online or the bookshop and later on, educate your kids.

Therefore, it is plain to see, that home schooling is far and away the best choice, especially if your child is still quite young. So, it all depends on you and your kid, whether they continue this type of schooling until they graduate for college.

Decor For Teen Rooms

January 2nd, 2010 Marion Jones No comments

Teen rooms are the bane of mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were younger. In those days, if their rooms were in a mess, you could shout at them and get them to tidy it up, and, barring that, you could go in and do a good job yourself. However, when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with something completely different.

True, you could go and ask them to clean up their rooms. And true, you could shout at them a little too, if you wanted to, or you could go and clean up the room yourself. However, that’s when the trouble begins. Teen rooms are sacred places and not to be entered into unless you’re invited to.

Woe betide the person who dares to move even one inch of that mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you had absolutely no right to move it. At least, that will be the argument of most teens, and you being the patient, caring mother that you are, will just roll your eyes and tell them that the whole pizza and day-old shirt thing just don’t go well together and you were just rescuing them from the revenge of the walking pizza slice.

Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and protest loudly, not to exaggerate, it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that make a great science project. So, you keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. And so ends the story, and you’re right back to square one.

Naturally, one way you could deal with this catastrophe is to redecorate it. Teen rooms might be sanctums for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a fantastic makeover.

That doesn’t mean that the room will be any cleaner once they’ve moved back in, but at least you’ll have seen the inside of the room long enough to tide you over for the next couple of years. That is unless you’re thinking of redoing their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are notoriously different when it comes to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are decorated quite differently from what you expected and what you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise should be struck, if your teen wants black for his room, then say you want another colour too that will offset the black.

Be prepared to give in a little on your ideas no matter how silly their ideas are. After all, they’re only a teen for a while and later they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had.

As a parent it is your duty to give them these moments in their lives which they can look back on with due horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

Black And White Ideas For Stylish Home Decor

December 20th, 2009 Marion Jones No comments

When people think about stylish home decor and making changes to their home, whether it be one or two rooms or the entire house, the first thing that usually springs to mind is colour. Generally people choose colours they are fond of or those which correspond with pieces of their existing furniture. When searching for inspiration for stylish home decor, one idea which is perhaps too often overlooked is decorating with the two basic colours (or shades, to be more accurate) ” black and white.

Black and white, used in home decor shows style and creates drama and pizzazz. Top interior designers say that every room in the house can benefit from using a touch of black. Black is a colour which anchors and stabilizes a room. Bringing sophistication, black is definitely a colour that demands attention. Stylish home decor ideas for a home using black may include accessories such as light fixtures, trim or furniture. Black serves to add definition to focal points in a room. Black is just one colour that stands out or makes a statement, but it is definitely one of the most outspoken!

Decorating with the shades of black and white in your living room decorating ideas, lends a clean, fresh, elegant atmosphere. This combination can be added to any room in a house making it a sophisticated area. Black and white are frequently used in contemporary interior design and often used to accent other colours in the French Country style. It may be hard to conceptualize but there are many ideas for decorating a home using combinations of only these two basic shades.

The flooring is a great area to start when you’re having living room decorating ideas. Black and white vinyl tiles laid alternately make a beautiful chessboard pattern and gives a clean and elegant appearance. Black marble used on the floor, accented by wide white skirting boards is another fantastic idea for decorating a room. Laying white ceramic tiles with a black border or simply painting the floor black or white and using pattern stencils of the opposite colour for decoration is also really stunning. These all are great ideas for re-vamping a home.

Is there anything more perfect than white walls? Painting the walls white or even an off-white makes a perfect background for accessories such as paintings framed in black. Imagine that – stylish home decor! Elegant black window treatments or black shutters against a clean, crisp white wall would certainly create an aura of sophistication. Perhaps a glass-topped table with black iron trim and black chairs? These are great ideas for decorating a home using only black and white.

Just imagine a bedroom decorated using only black and white – that would be quite beautiful stylish home decor too. A black or white iron bed-frame with a striped black and white blanket or eiderdown on top. The pillow cases could be either all black or all white too and you could add throw cushions or / and a bolster in the opposite colour.

A nice leather black or white armchair in the corner would certainly accent the living room decorating ideas. Then you could have the white walls with a sophisticated piece of artwork, framed in black, hanging on it. That would surely add to the contemporary feel of your living room decorating ideas. Black furniture against the crisp white walls would look really neat and tidy and you could jazz it all up with accessories like pewter or silver candlesticks, jugs or vases.

If you think the living room decorating ideas need a little more colour to complete the effect, perhaps a throw or a cushion in a bold colour like red or gold for the chair in the corner of the room would be enough to accent the room. There are many ways to decorate a room. However, finding the one that suits you and those who live with you is very important. It’s nice to do something extreme and off-the-wall but remember you must be able to live with it for quite sometime.
